FUNAAB ESTABLISHED CLIMATE RESEARCH FOR DEVELOPMENT NETWORK AMONG STAKEHOLDERS

The Climate Research team at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, took a bold step towards a sustainable future at the wrap-off workshop of the project on the Development of Early Warning System for Farmers’ Preparedness against Climate Change held at the Ogun-Osun River Basin head office, in Abeokuta, Nigeria. The workshop brought together participants from six states of SW Nigeria had in attendance, Government representatives, farmers, researchers, agricultural advisory service agents, and people from the industries. The team established a groundbreaking platform known as “Climate Research for Agricultural Development (CR4D)” to unite all stakeholders in the fight against climate change’s impact on agriculture.

The platform acted as a bridge, connecting farmers, researchers, policymakers, and industry experts to jointly address the pressing climate challenges faced by Nigeria. With increasing uncertainties in weather patterns, rising temperatures, and unpredictable rainfall, the need for collaboration was paramount.
Farmers, the backbone of the nation, shared their firsthand experiences and the struggles they faced due to the changing climate. Researchers provided insights into innovative agricultural practices that could adapt to these changes. Policymakers listened, devising strategies to implement sustainable policies, while industry leaders offered technological solutions to minimize carbon footprints and enhance agricultural efficiency.

Together, they drafted a comprehensive roadmap for sustainable agricultural development. “CR4D” became a symbol of hope, demonstrating that unity and shared knowledge could combat the dire consequences of climate change. With renewed determination, Nigeria’s agricultural sector flourished, resilient in the face of a changing world, and it served as an inspiring model for other nations facing similar challenges.
